Gentle Whispers

What is my purpose, Lord?

How can I serve to please You?

I see the gifts others have.

They are so talented, Lord.

Not like me.

They sing beautifully with Your annointing.

They search Your word and deliver stunning messages.

They serve the sick, poor and downtrodden.

What do I do?  What can I do?

Do I have a gift that You can use?

Do I have a talent to be used by You?

How can I find what I am to do?

How can I know when the discovery is made?

I will follow His lead,

Close behind Him I will walk.

Each step He takes, I will take another,

Until my purpose I discover.

We must follow step by step,

Day by day,

Leap by leap,

With courage and faith.

We can be sure He will lead us,

Sure He will gift us,

Sure He will provide a talent.

He is God Almighty and can do all these things.

Not like me.

Father, show us we don't compete.  We don't compete for talents or gifts.  We don't even compete for Your love.  You love each of us beyond measure.  No one else can do that.

Romans 12:6-8:  God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well.  So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, then prophesy whenever you can - as often as your faith is strong enough to receive a message from God.  If your gift is that of serving others, serve them well.  If you are a teacher, do a good job of teaching.  If you are a preacher, see to it that your sermons are strong and helpful.  If God has given you money, be generous in helping others with it.  If God has given you administrative ability and put you in charge of the work of others, take the responsibility seriously.  Those who offer comfort to the sorrowing should do so with Christian cheer.
