The first poem, I SAW HER, may need some background to understand the poem. If you would rather read the poem first, go to the I SAW HER page, then come back to this explanation.
In 1978 I was under a ton of stress. I had just gone through a hard divorce and was trying to provide for 3 little ones alone. I had just had my third child 6 weeks earlier and now had to go to work. Leaving the little girl
I had longed for for such a long time in a day care to go to work was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.
This is what happened and how the poem came to be:
One day while at work I heard someone whisper softly to me..."Lynn....". I
ignored it and continued to work. Then again I heard "Lynn..." I turned around to see myself standing there as plainly as I saw the wall behind her.
She looked like she could truly be me. She was wearing my clothes from my closet.
But she looked like she weighed only about 80 lbs. And she was tattered, dirty, and had stringy hair. She just stood there staring at me. She did not speak; not a word to me.
I whirled around back to my desk trying to understand
what had just happened. A good friend of mine, a counselor at work, was walking by but was stopped immediately by my whitened face. She asked me what was wrong. I trusted her and told her. She called a psychologist friend and set up
an appointment for me. I went to the appointment.
A Rorschach test was done along with the initial interview. I was told it would be a week before the test results would be ready. So I would need to plan to return in a week or so.
My phone was ringing as I walked into my office the next day. It was the psychologist's office. They wanted to see me right away. They had already completed the Rorschach test and it wasn't good news.
I had a dear friend tell me
years later that my life was like watching a puppet...I never laughed anymore, or smiled, or even cried. I was just getting through each day.
Then in 1980 this same friend asked me to go to church with her. On January 20, 1980 I gave me
life to the Lord.
My entire life changed. Everything changed!!! I was free from the dark stuff in my life. I still had problems pop up in my life, but I also had Jesus to help me, comfort me, provide for us, and love us.
Father, thank you!
